Music
Music at ATA is based on the notion that there is no better way for children to learn about music than to sing it, play it, read it, create it, move to it, and listen to it. The music program explores the wonders of vocal and instrumental music. Students sing a varied repertoire of music and perform on a variety of instruments from the four instrument families (brass, woodwind, percussion and string).
Performance and basis music theory skills are taught and reinforced during weekly classes (Pre-K & Kindergarten), and week-long intensive classes (1st through 5th grades). The School offers Choir, Band and the newly established "ATA String Project", where students learn to play violin, viola, cello and string bass. The music room is also equipped with a piano lab of 22 Yamaha keyboards.
Through the music appreciation component, students are introduced to a basic repertoire of what is widely considered the greatest music ever composed. Students are expected to become familiar with names and works of a cadre of great composers and performers from Bach and Beethoven to Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. Particular emphasis is placed on one of America's greatest contributions to music...JAZZ!
